Crumb Rubber Powder 20-Mesh

Crumb Rubber Powder 20-Mesh

Crumb rubber with a 20 mesh size falls between coarse and medium crumb grades.
It consists of small, granular pieces of recycled tire tread, with a particle size around 840 microns (0.84 millimeters).

Process:

Similar to other crumb rubber sizes, there are two main production methods:

Ambient Mechanical Grinding:

This is the most likely method for 20 mesh crumb.

  • Scrap tires are shredded into chips.
  • Metal and fibers are removed using magnets and air separation systems.
  • The rubber crumb is then ground in mills. The number of grinding passes may be less than finer grades but more than the coarse 10 mesh size.
  • Screens or air classifiers separate the crumb into different sizes, isolating the 20 mesh fraction.

However, for 20 mesh, mechanical grinding is typically sufficient and more cost-effective.

Technical Specifications:

Mesh Size: 20-Mesh

Particle Size: Approximately 840 microns (0.84 millimeters)

Fineness: Medium

Other Specifications (may vary depending on supplier):

Moisture content: Typically, less than 0.2%

Ash content: Typically, less than 10%

Material: Recycled tire rubber (can be natural or synthetic)

Uses:

The medium size of 20 mesh crumb rubber makes it suitable for applications requiring a balance between drainage, some structural integrity, and a smoother surface compared to coarser crumb. Here are some common uses:

Playground Surfaces: Can be used as a top layer on playgrounds, offering a cushioned yet somewhat smoother surface than larger crumb.

Athletic Tracks: Used as a component in athletic track underlayment’s, providing drainage and stability.

Equestrian Arenas: Can be used for the base layer of equestrian arenas, offering good drainage and some shock absorption for horses.

Construction Applications: In some cases, it might be used in specific construction projects for drainage or lightweight fill purposes.

Additional Points:

  • 20 mesh crumb rubber is an eco-friendly product utilizing recycled tires.
  • The specific properties can be tailored depending on processing methods and additives.
  • Proper handling is crucial due to potential dust inhalation hazards.
